Old Window

Sometimes the subject matter to paint is right before our eyes, like this old recessed window.

The old, historical part of my town, where I live, has many old Victorian homes, many with detached garages, also known as carriage houses. Back in the day, this is where they stored their horse carriage.

My neighbor across the alley from me has one such old carriage house. It’s probably over a hundred years old and is starting to crumble. The window no longer has glass, and the inside is dark and spooky! Raccoons and other critters often nest inside.

What the old window does have is a great window sill! My neighbor placed a potted plant on the sill and hung colorful beads on the fame to liven it up. The light and shadows were magical when the sun hung low in the sky, and I just had to try and paint it.
