Double Rainbow

I painted this watercolor of a double rainbow a couple summers ago from a photo I took. A storm had just passed and the late afternoon sun lit up a large Colorado rock formation making it appear to glow. Tall pine trees in the foreground with a distant hillside.

My sister was visiting that summer and she dubbed her visit “The Summer of Rainbows.” We had so many storms that week that produced many beautiful double rainbows.

Rainbow Trivia

Did you know, the colors of a double rainbow are reversed in the second rainbow? And the sky below the front rainbow is lighter underneath it!
